Prickly Pear Earrings, Large Black Oxidized Silver Statement Earrings

Shipping to United States: Free

These large black oxidized statement earrings are handcrafted from sterling silver. Each sterling silver teardrop was hammered into a gently curving pear shape. Each form is accented with polished silver studs and tiny holes that seem to glow when light passes through them.

These unique earrings feature a modern closure, with posts emerging from a minimalist stem. The posts are secured to the earlobe with a substantial 11m sterling silver comfort clutch ear nut with a built in plastic stabilizing disc for comfort and security. The pear forms swing freely from the stem with a sleek hinged component. Finally, these earrings were given a satin finish and a sumptuous black oxidized silver patina.

----- Are the earrings heavy? -----
Surprisingly each earring is only 6.5 grams. I love to design big statement earrings and I carefully consider their weight. These avant garde dangle earrings are made from fine 26 gauge sterling sheet to keep their weight down. 6.5 grams is a comfortable weight for the amount of visual impact these modern earrings carry. Some people are quite sensitive to the weight of earrings, and if that is the case for you, you may want to select another design.

These drop earrings were handcrafted by me in my little jewelry studio on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. I used time honored metalsmithing techniques to fabricate these earrings. They are not cast and not outsourced for mass production. The earrings are crafted from 925 sterling silver, including the ear wires.

These earrings will ship in 1-2 business days. I will send confirmation and tracking when they ship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sterling Silver Care Instructions

Silver can tarnish over time. To slow the process, store your silver jewelry in an air tight container. Keep your silver jewelry clean of chemicals and oils by occasionally washing with warm soapy water. A polishing cloth can bring back the original brightness of the silver. For oxidized silver, a polishing cloth may be desired to highlight the piece while keeping recessed areas dark as intended. For silver oxidized to full black, no polishing is needed, simply wash the surface with soap or alcohol occasionally.

My brass jewelry is turning my skin green. What can I do?

Some people have strong reactions to brass and bronze, while others have no reaction at all. If you are susceptible to these reactions, purchasing Sterling Silver jewelry might be a better option.

How do I care for my coffee filter jewelry?

Coffee filter jewelry has a water resistant coating. It is durable enough to wear in the rain. To clean, it's best not to soak the paper, simply dust the surface with a dry cloth or brush and carefully wipe down the ear wires with water or alcohol.

How do I find my ring size?

My rings come in US ring sizes. If you don't know your ring size, have a local jeweler size your finger for you. Or if you prefer to size your finger yourself visit this site for methods, charts and downloadable sample sizes:
